Tips For Planning Your Keto Meals

Being on a diet can be difficult if you don’t know how to plan your  keto meals. It’s because it can take a lot of time to come up with ideas for your breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks/desserts. As with other diets, planning your meals on the keto diet can also be challenging if you don’t know where to start from.

Fortunately, the keto diet isn’t too strict in terms of the foods you can eat, which makes it pretty easy to follow. Hence, it allows you to choose from many different products, including eggs, meat, dairy products, and even some keto-friendly desserts, such as the keto chocolate shake. However, if you don’t really know how to start planning your keto meals, here are several tips that will guide you through the process.

Know What To Focus On

The first thing when it comes to meals planning is to know what to focus on. This refers to the 3 rules of the keto diet:

  • Eating high-fat low-carb foods.
  • Eating mostly foods that are rich in proteins and fibre.
  • Eliminating processed foods that contain lots of calories.

If you follow these three rules, you will feel more satisfied than before. You will also consume more calories and fat, which will lead to ketosis and weight loss. In fact, these three rules are what makes the keto diet so effective, yet healthy.

Know What You Can And Can’t Eat

Before going shopping for groceries, you need to know exactly what you can and can’t eat on the keto diet. Namely, you can eat dairy products, meat, peanut butter (other nut butters, veggies, and eggs.

However, you can’t eat (should avoid most fruits, except berries and avocados. It’ because they are high in carbs due to being rich in natural sugar. Also, you can’t eat grains, legumes, and root veggies, nor drink artificially made and sugary drinks.

If you aren’t sure what you can and can’t eat, just look it up online; there are plenty of sites which provide keto-approved lists.

Make Your Home A Keto-friendly Place

Once you know which foods you can eat, you can go shopping for keto-friendly groceries. Needless to say, keto-friendly products are the only things you should have in your home. It’s because if you have any keto-unfriendly products, it may be hard to resist the temptation, which will make you fail your diet. So, make sure there’s enough of each keto-approved product in your fridge and kitchen.

Plan Your Meals In Advance

Once you have the keto-friendly products in your home, you can start writing them down. Then, you can think of the food combinations of recipes you can make with them. If you don’t have inspiration or aren’t into cooking, you can always find keto recipes online. Planning your meals in advance will especially help you when there are special events like birthdays or business dinners because they will help you stay on the right path.

Balance Your Food

Although the keto diet is based around high-fat low-carb products, that doesn’t mean you should eat only products such as meat, eggs, or avocados. You should also include other products, such as low-carb fruits and vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Moreover, you should include different types of fats, including saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fats, as well as soluble fibre (5-10g per day) and enough water.

Don’t Change Your Plan Quickly

In the first week, you will lose most of your weight, which is actually water weight. After that, you will lose 1-2 pounds per week. Sometimes it may be a bit more or a bit less. But that doesn’t mean your plan doesn’t work. So, don’t rush things by changing your meal plan, but wait for another 1 or 2 weeks to see if you have lost more weight. And, if, for any reason, you don’t lose weight for over a month, you can adjust your meal plan and your habits (exercise more.)

Planning your meals will make your transition to ketosis easier. It will also ensure you are consuming all of the nutrients you need to stay healthy. Plus, it will help you stay on the track and make the keto diet your new lifestyle.
